Zawistowski Receives Unanimous Endorsement from Local Republicans
On Tuesday May 19th, Republican delegates from across the 61st District, which includes Suffield, East Granby and a portion of Windsor, gathered for a virtual convention to endorse State Representative Tami Zawistowski for another two-year term at the State Capitol.
Suffield Republican Town Committee Chairman Brendan Malone made the motion to nominate Zawistowski and noted, “Tami is a champion for our district and committed to small business and agriculture. She is a leader that has focused on economic development, improving our quality of life and getting state finances under control.”
“Heading into the next legislative term, our state faces numerous challenges that we will have to face head-on,” said Zawistowski. “The coronavirus pandemic has compounded our existing economic and financial challenges. I’m looking forward to getting back to work to close growing deficits, restore our economy and to make sure that Connecticut families won’t be left behind.”
Since 2017, Zawistowski has served a Ranking Member of the Planning and Development Committee which oversees matters related to town governments and economic development programs. In that role, Tami has fought to protect property taxpayers by opposing unfunded mandates on towns and worked to promote voluntary shared services to reduce costs.
For her work during the 2019 legislative session she was recognized as “Legislator of the Year” by the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities and received the “Town Crier” award from the Connecticut Council of Small Towns.
Additionally, Zawistowski serves on the budget writing Appropriations Committee and the Transportation Committee. While serving on the Appropriations Committee fought for caps on spending, borrowing, and reforms to grow the state’s rainy-day fund. On the Transportation Committee, she has been a fierce opponent of tolls and a staunch advocate for Bradley International Airport.
In a speech supporting her nomination East Granby Board of Finance Member Jim Grenon-Francoline remarked, “I believe Tami is the hardest working member of the Connecticut legislature. She is always present at local events whether it’s for the Lions Club dinners at the senior center or Veterans meetings she’s there to listen to constituents.”
Brendan Malone agreed and offered, “Tami Listens. We are so blessed to have her as a representative. When you call her, she picks up, and when you need her, she is there. She is never too busy to help her constituents, no matter how big or small the problem may be.”
“I am honored to have received the unanimous endorsement for the 2020 ballot at the Republican 61st District convention,” concluded Zawistowski. “I am so fortunate to serve the people of a such a wonderful district and look forward to continuing that service in the future.”
Zawistowski reached her fundraising goals shortly after starting her campaign earlier this year and looks forward to connecting with voters through the summer and fall.
